The ending

It had been 30 years since the war ended. I was fairly lucky that I was still alive during the cruel war. I came back to Canada to start my new life. I got a job, got married and had two children. However the memories of war might still come to me sometimes.
One day when I was working, I received a letter from a stranger named Johann. While I was reading the letter, those pieces of memories appeared in my mind. Johann was the German soldier who escaped under my help. He stayed in Canada after the war. He wanted to see me. He would like to visit my home with his son. The following days I kept dreaming about the day I met him. The fearful and hopeless face was still clear in my mind.
The day was coming. At that day, my wife was preparing the food. My two children were playing on the yard outside. I was reading the newspaper and waiting. Suddenly the door was open. My two children came back and there were two people followed them. I looked at the big tall man who walking in the front and kept sclience for a few seconds. Then I recognized him by looking at those familiar eyes. And the face was quite similar when he left the room 30 years ago. I would never forget the thankful face at that moment.
I introduced my wife and children to them. Then we sat on the sofa and recalled the day we met. He asked me: “ why did you let me go? I had killed some of your fellow soldiers.” He bent his head and didn’t directly look my eyes. “ We were at the similar situation at that time. I just thought about in your point of view. If I were you I would also hope that you could save me.” I replied. He looked at me with red eyes and said:“ on one would like to fight in the war. Maybe I had suffered everthing as you did. I was indifferent. I just folowed the order.” I nodded and said:“ any way, thank God the war is over.” “The luckiest thing in the war is I have met you.” He added. “The dinner is ready” My wife came out of the kitchen with delicious food.
The experiences of the war would always be part of my life. I hope every soldiers who alived could cherish their new lives especially my friend Johann.
